Matthew Barnson ( United States )


Matthew Barnson is a native of Salt Lake City, Utah and has studied at the Eastman School of Music, the University of Pennsylvania and currently at Yale University. He is the youngest recipient of a Barlow Commission (at 22) and his works have been performed in Carnegie Hall, St. Severin, Aspen, L’arsenal and Curtis Hall by the Arditti String Quartet, the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, the Eastman Philharmonia and members of Alarm Will Sound and the Philadelphia Orchestra and by violists John Graham and John Richards (Alarm Will Sound), pianist Janelle Fung and Margaret Kampmaier, clarinetist JoAnn Steinberg and sopranos Margaret Bishop Kohler, Elizabeth Farnum and Erin Morely. He has won a Donoto Prize (Eastman) and competitions sponsored by the National Guild of Art Schools and North/South Consonance and has been an active participant at Aspen (2004 and 2005), June in Buffalo and Acanthes (2005 and 2006). Current works in progress include a new work for orchestra for the Orchestre National de Lorraine.
