Amr Okba ( Egypt )

Amr Okba was born in 1972. He started his musical education by studying the piano, and then studied musical theories at the faculty of musical education, while studying Economy and business administration at the University. After his graduation he joined the Cairo Conservatory department of Composition and Conducting in 1994, where he obtained his bachelor with distinction in 1998. In 1999, he obtained the Composition competition organized by the Supreme Council for Culture in Egypt. In 1999, he was awarded the state prize for artistic creation Rome Prize in Composition, which enabled him to spend one year and a half in Italy to share the Egyptian-Italian cultural activities through the Egyptian Academy in Rome. There he studied composition with Mauro Burtolotti at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia. Since 2000 he is demonstrator at the above mentioned Conservatory department of composition and conducting. Since 2003, he studies at the Austrian Universities, composition with Reinhard Febel ,Detlev Müller–Siemens and Dieter Kaufman Electronic experimental composition at the Mozarteum University and Wien University für Musik und darstellende Kunst. His compositions have been performed in Austria, Egypt, Italy and Germany. In 2005 Amr Okba was asked by Musik der Jahrhunderte to establish the Global Interplay workshop in Cairo, which is the first school for contemporary music in Egypt.
