Marcelo Toledo ( Argentina )

Marcelo Toledo was born in Posadas in the Misiones Province (Argentina). In 1980, he was a co-founder of Indiklextomink, an experimental group in search of new artistic codes. In 1984, he founded the instrumental chamber ensemble El Altillo together with others. Its main concern is merging contemporary music techniques with folk and ethnic music, as well as tango and jazz. In 1991, Toledo received the State Government Prize for Music Composition for his work with the Ensemble El Altillo. After studying the guitar in Santa Fe (Argentina), he received a two-year stipend from the National University of Litoral for his research project ‘Stravinsky or the Sculpture of Time’. In 1992, Toledo immigrated to the United States, and received his Master’s Degree in composition from the Syracuse University in 1995. Since 1998, he has a Mellon-Fellowship at Columbia University, and is a graduate student of Tristan Murail. Toledo’s works were performed in the USA, in Mexico, Canada, Finland, Uruguay, Mongolia, France, and Argentina. In 2001, he received the Columbia University Dr. Boris and Eda Rapaport Prize. Teledo is a mentor of the New York Team of Global Interplay.
