Wenchen Qin ( China )

Born in Erdos, Inner Mongolia, Qin Wenchen began to learn Chinese folk music at 9. In 1987, Qin entered the Composition Department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where his teachers included Zhu Jianer. After graduating in 1992, he began teaching in the Composition Department of the Central Conservatory of Music. From 1998-2001 he undertook graduate studies in Germany with Nicolaus A. Huber, supported by a DAAD fellowship. Qin Wenchen has written pieces in various genres including chamber music, symphonies, traditional music forms and film/TV scores. In recent years, he has been commissioned by Ensemble Recherche and the Kassel Stadt Theater Orchestra (Germany); L'Ensemble Itineraire (France); Ensemble Europa Antidogma (Italy); Tokyo City Symphony Orchestra (Japan); Nieuw Ensemble (Holland) and Ensemble on Line (Austria). His music has been broadcast on North German Radio (NDR), West German Radio (WDR) and Radio France, and performed in music festivals including Biennale Neue Musik Hannover in Germany, Torino Biennale Arte Emergente in Italy, Tokyo Opera City Composium in Japan, Kassel Music Season and Forum Junger Komponisten in Köln. Recordings of his works have been released by music publishers in Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan; in 2003 Beijing Jingwen Records Company published SHADOW OF THE SUN, his first solo disc.
