The amusement park Killesberg close to the Theaterhaus turns into a sound park. Poetic, dainty, reflective and confrontational sound installations turn the park into an artistic event.
Discovering sounds and places
Five international artists produce arts of sound for the "Höhenpark Killesberg", which lead the visitor into a world of poetry and meditation, adventure and reflection. The arts of sound are perfectly integrated in the landscape. Therefore, the park can be an experience from a new perspective. The arts of sound accentuate particular places of the park, refer to the unique history of the park and present various sound possibilities in the world of the New Music. The installations invite you to listen, to observe, to touch and to try out.
Pupils and students are included in the creation and realization of particular arts of sound. Together with the artists they introduce workshops during the festival and create sound places at the sound park. Thus, they can be regarded as a part of the entire creation. The festival park turns into a vivid and sensual artistic event which incites every visitor to discover and perceive its environment.
The artistic concepts
The aim of the sound park is to display a distinctive perception of the landscape surrounding the park. The Killesberg Park is a unique place of relaxation in the city which attracts families and groups as well as individuals. It is a place of recreation, adventure and a place to meet. The park represents the arts of aesthetics and the arts of gardening. This park has its own history - from a quarry to a nature protection and landscape conservation park to an adventurous landscape with a light festival and green fields for animals.
Now it will be the scene for the World New Music Festival. The sound installations reflect these diverse meanings and possibilities of the park and inspire you to discover them from a very different perspective.
Hence, the visitor seems to discover an oasis of relaxation which he or she wouldn't have recognised before the installations of the sound clearing appeared. Furthermore, the visitor will learn more about the moving history of the park while sitting in the sound train. Climbing up the sound tower will arouse the visitor's curiosity for the world of the New Music which is drifting in spherical sounds around the tower.
Or visitors will get into contact while encountering various sounds on their own at the sound playground.
Innovative and close to the audience
The idea of "going beyond borders" is realised in a unique way at the sound park Killesberg. The art of sound is operating on the border between music, art and performance while incorporating the newest media techniques. It is a complete work of art which is directly approachable to the observer. Every visitor is able to experience directly the sound places without having a particular previous knowledge.
